Walking

Athleague,
situated on the main road from Roscommon Town to Galway, is a centre both for
walking and angling. The River Suck flows next to the village, and the Suck
Valley Way shares its banks for many miles. The walk passes over ever-changing
terrain, from hillside to bog, from water meadows to forest
and woodland.
Castles and ringforts are among the many points of interest along this unspoilt
countryside. Moate
Park Forest, only 4 miles away,
has some lovely walks. The
Suck Valley Way, a 60-plus mile round walk, comes within 4 miles of Rowan Tree House, at Athleague.
The angling visitor centre, once a protestant church, provides refreshment and
information about the local fishing sites.
